Making Money from Resources

Post by Teelor » Wed Dec 10, 2008 12:00 pm

Hi there,

Im thinking of setting up some harvestors to make some more money. Im not sure which ones are best these days. Do I need to be a trader for this or can I do it with any toon?

How much could I sell Ore for?
How much could I selll Power for?

You help is appreciated.

Any toon can put down harvesters on their 10 lots, however, only Traders can survey for up to 320 meters. Not being able to survey a large area will make you go nuts when trying to find a great spawn.

Also a Traders can set their expertise to include harvesting bonuses. Any toon can ask an Entertainer for the Harvest Faire buff.

Only Traders can have vendors to sell resources from. The Bazaar is fine but you have the limit of max 25 items up for sale and the price limit of 20k there which asks for quite small crates, for example a crate of 10000 units gives you 2 CPU. You will probably harvest 1000000 units a week, so you must sell +100 crates a week, which is restocking every 2nd day

Bulk resources sell for about 1 to 3 CPU (credits per unit), it differs between galaxies. Power is in the same neighbourhood. Usually the trick is to find the level when your production floats off of the vendor in a fair speed, no dust collectors and no empty shelves, right?

Finally, welcome about, enjoy the stay :D

Thanks Zimoon

That sounds ok to me, I will try selling them through the Galaxy Trade Forum.

Do you think people would but bulk cheap ORE or would I be better selling Power?

Are there any other resources you think I might be better to sell?

I was a Master Artisan / Architect pre CU but respeced to a combat proff just before the NGE. I dont really want to grind out a crafter again. Wish I hadnt changed now.

What to sell really depends on your galaxy.

It is not that bad to level out a Structure Trader, it is done in 4 hours given the resources and a new mouse with a double-click button. But if you feel for re-learning the crafting you should let it takes the time, still Structure is the uber fastest.

I have done this with my second account to get it set up financially and found that grind Steel and oddly enough Unstable Organometallic Gas have been my biggest sellers, obviously if you can get hold of a really good Steel or Copper you can make some good cash from that as well.

Generally prices for grind grade materials sit at around 3cpu and the high quality stuff is pretty much what ever the market will tolerate but starting around 10cpu is a good place, it is therefore really important that you know your market.

Also don't forget the Entertainer buff and the Surveyors Bracelet (glowies from Mustafar) as that will help a little if your characters are non-crafters.

Another thing to look out for is BM quality materials especially if you can get them in the volumes used to make full component runs, the easiest option is to build up a series of guards in SWGAide to keep an eye on things for you.

Oh and one more piece of advice, NEVER sell anything that is currently spawning keep it a week or so after it has despawned before advertising it.

Cheers for your help Guys.

I have 10 BER 14 Heavy Harvestors left over from my old crafting days. Is it worth buying 3 elites? How much do they cost? They would be less hassle than dropping the 10 Heavies I would imagine.

G'day mate. IMO it would be a bit easier to manage using 3 elites (9 slots) as opposed to your 10 Heavies. Ultimately though you'll (ballpark) get the same out of them.... 10 x 14 BER vs approx 3 x 44. Although if you want that toon to have a couple of houses as well, the elites could chew up your slots.

Thinking outside the box, in addition to what the other guys have suggested for a trader profession, if you wanted to make some cash out of resources but didn't want to make a trader, you could specialise in collecting creature resources. High quality creature resources don't really come along as often as non-organics, but when they do they tend to be worth a bit more because it takes actual game time to collect them, as opposed to just dropping a few harvestors. I don't know which server you're on but on Bria, the stickies in the Trade Forum include a post that lists current good resources and "miners for hire". Armoursmiths especially, also always need various bone and hide for final assembly of their pieces, for which quality no longer matters, so there's a market for them too. Pre-NGE, as a Ranger I used to have a great business harvesting creature resources for crafters.... /reminisce.

One tip I would give you, if you do go with trader and sell from your own vendors, you're generally better off selling resources in decent sized, neat stacks of resources. e.g.- 300k, 100k, 50k, 20k, whatever. 1. It's easier for a customer to see what the quantity is and calculate cpu. 2. If someone's doing a bulk run of something, they'll want to be able to do the whole run with one resource and not have to split runs because of odd stacks.

Good luck with it mate.

If you want to make fast money, you really should go for large quantity grind ressources. Selling ore stacks for 2-3 cpu should go fast, as archis need a lot ore for anything they build.
Sure the high quality material can be sold for a higher price (especially if you wait before sale....not only a week, more a month), but for most of my stuff, I don't need to get server bests. So I am not willing to pay too much for small stacks of HQ material, if I can get the same result by using a little lower stat materials.

IF you are associated with a guild - I'd suggest going to your guild's crafters first as a means to an end. And as many of the suggestions posted - check your galaxy trade forums and sell/auction there!

Can you guys tell me, how I make the price for non-bulk resources?

As an example, I have a fruit with FL 968 and OQ 871...

What way do I decide, for what price I sell this one?

greetings and a nice weekend to you all

There is no formula for prices, it is the so called market that sets the prices. That means, either you put it up for a price and see if it sells, or you look around for similar qualities and price from that research.

Unless the PE is high on that resource it is not that good for Chefs (other use?), and even with PE=1000 it is just 953 on Nutrition, while anything above 960 could do. However, of course, it is the combination of resources that makes it and it is possible to get it over 960.

Either way, good to see you here again maninspace :)
