General information: Collection types
Possible types of collections are:
- kill quota collections
- crafting quota collections
- collections for static objects
- collections for looted objects
- collection of collections
Kill quota collections
Kill quota collections require you to kill a certain amount of certain creatures. Every collection specializes in one creature, but you have to kill different types of this creature ranging from commonly found low-level kind to rare high-level kind which may include elite or boss. For example, for the
Womprat Slayer collection you have to kill six different types of womp rats.
The amount of creatures you have to kill differs from collection to collection but most often you have to kill a few hundred all-together (the above example requires more than 800).
Some of these kill-quota collections are started by visiting an NPC that gives you the collection like a mission, others are started when you kill one of the creatures that appear in the collection, and yet others are started by the help of looted items, you activate it via its radial menu.
Crafting quota collections
These collections require you to craft a certain number of items with schematics that are also obtained via the collections system. Most collections require you to craft 20 or more items and since such a schematics is two-use only you must either buy schematics off of other players or barter their schematics for the crafted items.
These collections are started by crafting the first item from such a schematic obtained from another collection. There may be some fighting involved in the collections to obtain the schematics.
Collections for static objects
These collections are also called
clicky-collections and they require you to find and collect (click at) objects that are found at static locations throughout the galaxy. They are often recognized by their unique names or for example because it's the only named sword on a wall full of melee weapons. Spot these easily by activating the option to "display object names" Options -> Misc.
Some items are found in dangerous locations next to high-level MOB:s but many are found in everyday locations as a Cantina or all sorts of other static structures. In the wilderness MOB:s attack you if you try to collect "their" item but only if they are aggressive or neutral faction towards you.
These collections sometimes started by visiting an NPC but more often when you find and collect any item of the collection. Some of these collections does not involve any fighting.
Collection for looted objects
These collections are completed by looting certain items off of carcasses of NPC:s or creatures. Some items are only found at MOB:s of certain levels and some are only found at certain MOB types. Usually you must open the radial menu of the item and select "add to collection" which also consumes the item. These items are tradeable and are sold/bought at the bazaar and at player vendors (the rare items have prices that range in the millions) -- this way you can avoid fighting.
These collections are started by the "add to collection" at an item's radial menu.
Collection collections
These collections are started when you complete some other collection. For example, the
Creature Resource collection is started when you complete any one of the five collections Exceptional Egg, Exceptional Milk, Faux Real, Humerus Collectibles, or Prime Cuts.
Such a collection is completed when all of its sub-collections are completed. As such they do not require any fighting, but their required sub-collections may do.
